What To Wear To A Spring Wedding

Spring is now officially here, and that means wedding season is back in full swing! I just went to my dear friend Michelle's wedding last weekend and it was absolutely beautiful! My heart just warms up when I think about how Michelle and Alex are so perfect for each other!
While weddings are super fun to go to, sometimes you can feel stumped about what to wear, especially with wedding etiquette always changing, different seasons, and types of wedding venues. Let me share with you what to wear to a spring wedding, as well as my do's and don'ts in wedding fashion etiquette!
SPRING WEDDING FASHION
For spring wedding fashion this year, think colorful pastels, floral prints, tulle, lace, and all things feminine and flirty! For the wedding I chose to wear this velvet-trimmed lace dress by Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini. The midi length was perfect for the semiformal wedding, transitioning easily from the outdoor ceremony to the formal, indoor reception. To highlight the black velvet on the dress I wore black velvet sandals by Johanna Ortiz and the black Mia Shoulder Bag by Danse Lente (also worn here). If there's still some spring chill in your area, leather jackets, pretty shawls, and capelets are all fashionable options to keep warm as well.

WEDDING DO'S:
Do research the venue beforehand. Not all wedding invites describe the venue or have a dress code. Take the time to google the location to get a true sense of what would be most appropriate. You don't want to show up in a casual dress while everyone is dressed in formal evening wear!
Do wear color! I totally get when guests wear black to a wedding. The idea is to put attention on the bride. If you find a black dress you feel beautiful and confident in, by all means wear it. But if you can, opt for a bright and cheerful color. This is a joyous day after all!
Do check the weather. The outdoor wedding I went to had some spring showers. Therefore, it's always handy to check the weather beforehand and have an extra umbrella on hand, a shawl, weather-appropriate shoes, etc. It never hurts to be over prepared!
WEDDING DONT'S:
The general rule of thumb for wedding fashion etiquette would be: never outshine the bride. With that said, what's appropriate to wear can be highly variable depending on the wedding time, venue, and any notes on the wedding invite.
Don't wear sneakers, flip flops, denim, or distressed clothing, even to a casual wedding unless the invite says to do so. Casual doesn't equate to sloppy, and being dressed nicely at a wedding is also a sign of respect.
Don't wear white/off-white/nude unless the wedding invite asks the entire party to wear white, in which case, super cool!

SHORT & SWEET SPRING WEDDING DRESSES
Some people say don't wear mini dresses to weddings, but I say why not! As long as your behind isn't exposed, and the dress is tasteful, I say it's totally fine. It's no longer winter and we can finally let our legs get that Vitamin D!

MIDI LENGTH SPRING WEDDING DRESSES
I think mid-length dresses are the most versatile for weddings. If you're unsure about which dress length to choose, midi dresses can work perfectly for semi-formal to formal weddings. They look elegant without trying too hard, and the length is oh so flattering! And if dancing at the reception is your thing, this length is perfect.

LONG MAXI SPRING WEDDING DRESSES
Long, flowy maxi dresses are perfect for an outdoor spring wedding. Or you can wear long gowns for a formal black tie wedding. Long dresses always make me feel like a regal princess, and that's always a nice feeling! ;)
